Welcome to the second issue of geospatial jobs newsletter prepared by me, Ali Ahmadalipour (@hydroclimali on Twitter). The first issue was published just a few days ago, and it received substantial attention. Special thanks to thousands of people who read the newsletter, hundreds of whom subscribed to it too. Such a great interest along with all the beautiful messages I received motivated me to dig more into the subject and put together a follow up issue. In this issue, there are 20+ data science positions and 20+ internship positions (which many students asked for). At the end, I have gathered a few useful resources and suggestions that I hope you find helpful.
If you haven’t already, please subscribe to the newsletter, and share it with your friends and colleagues too.
Stay motivated and keep up the good work. Wishing you all the best in your job search.

🗒💡 Notes and Suggestions:
A lot of startups hire interns on a regular basis and do not necessarily advertise for it. If your research is very relevant to a company, they may be interested to hire you as an intern or a part-time employee, and you may end up working with them after graduation.
Try your best to improve your programming (preferably Python & xarray library) and data science skills (preferably Tensorflow or Pytorch), and publish papers or be active on community platforms (e.g. Github, Pangeo, or Kaggle) to prove your skills. There are 100s of online courses on Udemy or Coursera and many free bootcamps and short courses. Learning has never been more accessible!
Develop a portfolio and showcase your work/research on your website. There are several free tools such as Google sites, Wix, or Weebly (among others) that you may consider.
Now is the best time to get a geospatial job/internship, since you do not necessarily need to move to another city (no sub-lease hassle!) and several startups have recently had fundraising (cash is king!). If your expertise is in deep learning (computer vision) and remote sensing (with a proven track record), there are numerous companies from several sectors (e.g. agtech, insurtech, climatetech, geo-intelligence, energy, CAT modeling, sustainability, and supply chain) that are interested to hire people like you.
If you are an advisor/faculty member: be kind to your students and encourage/help them learn useful skills and grow professionally. The industry is no longer just a bunch of consulting firms that used Matlab and Microsoft Excel. The wind of change is blowing and the conventional path of PhD🤷—>Postdoc🤓—>Postdoc2🥸—>Assistant professor🎅—>Tenure🥳 does not work for everyone (especially for motivated researchers at ~average universities, in my opinion), and there are many other exciting opportunities out there.
I declare no competing financial interests. This is a volunteer project and I have not received any financial incentive to advertise these jobs.
